As an Electronic Resources Librarian at the University of Limpopo, I manage the lifecycle of electronic resources to support the university’s teaching and research activities. I handle the selection, acquisition, and access of e-books, databases, and e-journals, ensuring they are user-friendly, compliant with standards like COUNTER, and accessible remotely. My responsibilities include negotiating licenses, managing subscriptions through consortia like SANLiC, and overseeing procurement processes while adhering to university policies. I also maintain accurate records, activate resources in discovery tools, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure seamless and uninterrupted access for users.
In my current role as an Assistant Librarian in the Acquisition department at the University of Limpopo, I manage electronic resources, maintain records, and reconcile invoices with received materials. My deep understanding of financial terminology and my experience with Innovative Interfaces' integrated library system – Sierra, have proven instrumental in my work. Complementing these are my strong communication and interpersonal skills, which help me effectively supervise shifts. My programming skills, evidenced in the various projects I have developed and managed, demonstrate my talent for integrating technology into library services to enhance user experience.
As an Assistant Librarian for Information Services at the University of Limpopo, I served as the subject librarian for the School of Language and Communication. My duties included supervising shifts, assisting students and staff with research, conducting one-on-one advice sessions, and teaching users how to navigate the library's databases and online catalogue to enhance their self-research skills.
In my role as a Voluntary Client Service member at the University of Limpopo, I managed the library's invoicing and lending system. I was responsible for creating and sending invoices for library dues, managing the library's circulation desk, and maintaining an updated list of students with overdue books for notification purposes.
During my year-long internship at the University of Limpopo Library, I gained hands-on experience across Client Services, Acquisition Management, Information Services, and Technical Services. I honed my customer service skills, managed library resources, aided researchers with their informational needs using electronic databases, and learned cataloguing and classification of library materials. The internship provided me with a holistic understanding of the library's operations, particularly enjoying the challenges in the cataloguing section.
